Results – Photographer of the Year 2025

“Australian Photography” Magazine

With some prompting from my partner, I selected 5 photos I had taken in the preceding 12 months to enter in this annual competition. My first time putting entries in to any form of competition. I told myself to keep it simple and not over think anything.

There was one photo I had taken whilst on a visit to the Latrobe Valley in the state of Victoria (Australia) that I kept coming back to and whenever I had it on a screen my eyes kept looking at it. So that was my choice to enter as a single photo in the ‘Single Shot’ category titled “Bleak Industry.

Sticking with the black & white look of my first selection, I selected a set of 4 shots that I had taken in the Adelaide Central Markets on one of my many visits to Adelaide in the state of South Australia (Australia) to enter in the ‘Black & White’ category – which had to be a set of 4 – titled “Buyers and Sellers”.

Buyers and Sellers

I got a fantastic surprise a couple of months later when I received not one but two emails informing me of the results! I was so happy – a great confidence builder – to be informed that “Bleak Industry” was a FINALIST in the single shot category, and that “Buyers and Sellers” was HIGHLY COMMENDED in the black & white category.

I think I might try competitions again soon!
